LTS is excited to announce our partnership with the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture to increase school choice opportunities for GA farming families.

Families who qualified for aid through the Georgia Department of Agriculture‘s “Weathered but Strong” program can apply for K-12 private school scholarships through Learning to Serve if their students are serving in the community and meet the state’s SSO eligibility requirements.

Lily Baucom, Executive Director of the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture and administrator of the Weathered but Strong Program, emphasized the need to help farming families make the best choice for their students’ education in the wake of financial hardships due to the storms that hit GA last year. “When extreme weather negatively affects farming families, they have to make difficult financial decisions,” Baucom said. “We are grateful to Learning to Serve for offering this option to help families continue to send their students to the schools of their choice.”

Mandy Hudson, LTS Executive Director, is grateful for the business partnerships that allowed LTS to provide this assistance. “One of our partners, CareSource, is involved with the Weathered but Strong initiative that helped so many GA farmers after last year’s storms,” she says. “When I asked them if they would like to also redirect their tax credits to help students in these families, they said ‘yes’ without hesitation. The Georgia Farm Bureau also donated tax credits for this purpose. We hope to grow additional partnerships in the future.”

Hudson also gave credit to LTS recipients for putting in the work to earn their scholarship. “These students are taking responsibility for their tuition and easing the financial burden of tuition on their families while growing a heart to serve others,” she says. “It‘s a win for all involved.”
